At approximately 17:00, Prince Edward County experienced a short severe thunderstorm. During the beginning portion of the storm, Farmville Communications(the county fire/rescue/police dispatch center) lost power due to downed trees, which had landed on power lines. The Farmville Fire Department was initially dispatched to 3 calls simultaneously and requested Co. 2 assist with a Commercial Fire Alarm Activation on Main St. While en route, Co. 1 was dispatched to a structure fire in Cumberland County with smoke and heavy fire showing. (Check www.farmvillefire.net for updates.) Engine 2-2 was diverted to cover a downed power line and to assist Co. 1 with any additional calls in their first due. During this period of time, Co. 1(Farmville), Co. 2(HSVFD), Co. 3(Pamplin), Co. 5(Meherrin), Co. 6(Darlington Heights), and Co.7(Rice) (6 of the 7 county fire departments) were dispatched to calls in the span of approximately 20 minutes. After the several of the more hazardous downed power lines in the town of Farmville had been repaired, Engine 2-2 was clear of the scene. 201 terminated command, leaving the power company on scene to continue repairing the damage and traffic control to the town of Farmville Police.

Then at approximately 19:15, Co. 2 was toned out to assist Co. 1 for a General Fire Alarm activation at the County High School. Truck 2 was cancelled en route by the building maintenance staff leaving Truck 2 in service.
